Celebrity defense lawyer Johnnie Cochran Jr., who died Tuesday in Los Angeles, had hoped Jews’ success in winning Holocaust restitution could serve as a model for African Americans seeking redress for slavery. Cochran, a past trustee and honoree of the Foundation for Ethnic Understanding, was “a tireless advocate for the strengthening of Black-Jewish relations,” foundation president Rabbi Marc Schneier said.
