Civil and military censorship of cables and letters leaving Palestine will be terminated the end of this month, and consorship of the local press will be restricted to “matters affecting the country’s security, Acting High Commissioner John V.M. Shaw told a conference of Palestine editors today.
Shaw also announced that persons desiring to leave the country will no longer be required to obtain a police permit, but he added that the Palestine Government is not prepared to do anything more in connection with facilitating visas for neighboring countries.
In reply to a question, the Acting High Commissioner said that the government was not prepared to discuss any proposal for nationalization of large enterprises such as the Palestine Electric Corporation, or the Palestine Potash Co., which was proposed by the editor of the Arab newspaper Al Difa.
The central committee of the Histadruth adopted a resolution today demanding that the government revoke all war-time emergency regulations affecting man power controls, prohibition of strikes and night work by women.
