Church-State relations in the United States, and Reform Judaism’s relations with the State of Israel will be among the topics on the agenda of the 72nd annual convention of the Central Conference of American Rabbis, to be opened here tomorrow. The Conference is the rabbinical organization of Reform Judaism, and is the oldest national rabbinical body in the Western Hemisphere, with a current membership of more than 800 spiritual leaders of congregations in the United States and Canada. The convention will close Saturday.
The convention’s keynote address will be delivered tomorrow night by Dr. Bernard J. Bamberger, Conference president, who is the rabbi of Congregation Shaaray Tefila, in New York. One of the featured speakers at the convention will be Eliahu Elath, Israel’s first Ambassador to the United States, who will discuss Israel’s relations with the newly created states in Asia and Africa. The Conference’s committees on Church and State and on justice and peace are scheduled to report during the five-day session.
