The Central Conference of American Rabbis began its 41st annual convention here today. The opening session was devoted to an executive board meeting. Starting Wednesday morning all sessions will open to the public and will be held at the Hotel Biltmore and Temple Beth El. On Thursday the convention will adjourn to Newport, the site of the first American synagogue.
At Wednesday evening’s session Rabbi David Lefkowitz of Dallas, Tex., will deliver his presidential message. An important symposium on the Union Prayer Book will be held Thursday evening and the topic for discussion Friday morning and afternoon will be “Religious Education.” Rabbi Solomon Z. Foster of Newark will deliver the conference lecture Friday evening and the conference sermon will be delivered by Rabbi Emil Leipziger of New Orleans, Saturday morning.
Saturday afternoon will be devoted to practical problems of the ministry and the Hebrew Union College alumni, will hold a private meeting Saturday evening. The chief speaker for the Conference will be Dr. I. Raffalovich of Rio de Janeiro, who will speak, Sunday evening, on the condition of Jewry and Judaism in South America.
The first Central Conference was organized by Dr. Isaac M. Wise, founder of the Hebrew Union College, and of the Reform Movement in America.
