The Central Unioni of German Citizens of Jewish Faith has made a statement to the J.T.A. here to-day in which, drawing attention to the fact that certain newspapers in Berlin have been complaining against the police that they were tardy in their action against the anti-Jewish rioters on Rosh Hashanah, it goes on to declare that the Central Union considers it for important reasons as its duty to point out that on its own careful verified knowledge of the facts these complaints are, to say the least, very much exaggerated.
The Syndicus of the Central Union, Dr. Wiener, and the Syndicus of its Berlin area, Dr. reichmann, it states, were themselves in the Kurfuerstendamm at the time, and were careful observers of a great deal of what was going on. They are, therefore, able to establish that the police were on the spot 15 minutes after the alarm was given.
The Central Union states further that it has learnt to-day that the Hitlerists had issued orders for a night march to Teltow. When the Hitlerists arrived, however, at their assembling places ready for the march, they were ordered instead to the Kurfuerstendamm.
It is not correct to say, the statement adds, that Dr. Soebbels directed the activity. Count Helldorf, the head of the Hitlerist storm troops in Berlin, was, however, in the Kurfuerstendamm with his motor car.
