Chaim Shurer, Editor of Davar, organ of the Histadrut, the Israel Federation of Labor, died here today at the age of 73 after a long illness. He joined the staff of the Hebrew-language daily in 1935 and became its editor in 1953.
A native of the Ukraine, Shurer was educated in Kishinev and came to Palestine in 1913 at the age of 18. In Palestine he worked as an agricultural laborer in various parts of the country until 1926. He was the author of a number of books and of an exhaustive study of the Hapoel Hazair movement. A delegate to several sessions of the World Zionist Congress, he was a member of the Zionist General Council.
