The formal inauguration of the Chair for Hebrew Language and Literature at Buenos Aires University took place at ceremonies at the University yesterday. A huge crowd witnessed Rabbi Amram Blum, Chief Rabbi of this city, installed as the first Professor of the chair.
At the ceremonies, Dr. Blum delivered a formal lecture on the Bible. He also took occasion to acknowledge with thanks that the chair was created during the regime of President Juan Per on. Dr. Blum recently visited the United States to tour American universities where chairs of Jewish and Hebrew studies were in existence.
Present at the ceremonies was Israel Minister Arieh Kubovi and members of the legation staff, high government officials and representatives of Jewish organizations. Among the speakers at the inauguration were Prof. Antonio Serrano Redondet, Dean of Faculty, and Prof. Alberto Freixas, head of the Department of Ancient Cultures.
