Bernard Gering, chairman of the Zionist Federation of South Africa, announced today that he has resigned from the presidency of the United Zionist Party because he believes that the “party system has become obsolete” following the proclamation of Israel statehood. He also voiced the opinion that the Zionist Federation should return to a “no-party basis”.
