Chanukah shone forth again on Wall Street tonight–as it has for the last week–in the window of the Wall Street headquarters of the New York branch of Bank Leumi, Israel’s oldest and largest bank.
Flanked by the Israeli and American flags, and spotlighted, there was a contemporary Chanukah menorah in terra cota by Ruth Jonas Bardin, a painter and sculptor here. The artist, who had been a pioneer in the 1930’s in Palestine, where she had revived the ancient art of hand-loom weaving, loaned the menorah to the bank for this year’s Chanukah observance.
