Chaplain (Lt. Col.) Meir Engel, U. S. Army Jewish chaplain on duty in Vietnam, died of a heart attack today, it was learned by the National Welfare Board. A veteran of World War II and Korea, he had been assigned to Viet Nam in August, just before the Jewish High Holy Days.
Chaplain Engel was born in Israel in 1914, and came to the United States in 1937 after receiving his M. A. from Hebrew University in Jerusalem. He was ordained as a rabbi at the Jewish Theological Seminary of America in 1942.
