Charges against Michael LeBovich and Kenneth J. Gorelick, two of the six Jewish Defense League members on trial here, were dismissed yesterday afternoon for lack of evidence. The six, which includes Rabbi Meir Kahane, were accused of violating the District of Columbia law that forbids demonstrations within 500 feet of a foreign embassy. Prosecuting attorney John C. Lenahan told Chief Judge Harold Greene of the District’s Superior Court that the six were demonstrating within 80 feet of the Soviet embassy on June 25. However, police could not identify LeBovich or Gorelick and charges against them were dropped. The other defendants are Zvi Sternberg, 20; Larry Fine, 29, JDL executive director: Gene Kleinhelder, 18; and Rabbi Kahane. The maximum penalty for violating the D.C. statute is 60 days in jail or a $100 fine.
