The assertion that the two Communists, Emmerich Szalay and Alexander Fuerst, hung by order of the Budapest authorities, were condemned because they were Jews was made by Deputy Jean Longuet of France, a grandson of Karl Marx, in a statement to the Jewish Telegraphic Agency today.
Deputy Longuet, prominent Socialist leader, came to Budapest to defend the executed Communists. He denounced the trial procedure as abhorrent. Attorneys for the accused were not permitted to communicate with their clients and were not even shown the charges against them.
