Under terms of the will of the late Bernhard Baron, founder of the firms of Carreras, Limited, grants to hospitals and various other charities amounting to £36,970 (approximately $180,000) were made by the charitable trust, founded in 1928. These grants, made annually on the anniversary of the birthday of Mr. Baron, were made to 330 organizations.

The grants include £14,380 to London hospitals; £8,865 to hospitals outside of London; £3,995 to orphanages, cripple organizations and blind associations, and £8,740 to Jewish charities.

Since the formation of the trust, and including this year’s grants, £258,870 has been distributed.

Marie-Bernard Bauer embraced Catholicism, rose to the rank of bishop, becoming father confessor to the Empress Eugenie and after the downfall of the empire abandoned his bishopric to become a fancier of race-horses.
