The world premiere of “Lilith,” an original ballet based on Jewish folk legends, took place here last night at the eighth annual “give and get” dinner given by Chicago Hadassah. The sum of $25,395 was raised, all of which will be sent to Palestine.
The lead in “Lilith” was danced by Nathan Vizonsky. The music is by Joseph Elson. The presentation was given by the Jewish Folk Ballet.
Dr. David de Sola Pool of New York was the principal speaker. Fifteen hundred persons attended, 200 of them from out of town. Other speakers delivered messages of greeting on behalf of the Midwest Region of Hadassah, Junior Hadassah and the Zionist Organization of Chicago.
Seventh Junior Hadassah girls contributed $2,100. The out-of-town guests came from twenty-three cities in the Midwest Region. The sum of $7,000 was raised outside Chicago.
Mrs. Harry Beekman, president of Chicago Hadassah, presided. Sara Turner, president, brought the greetings of Junior Hadassah. Other speakers were Mrs. A. J. Pearlman of Milwaukee, president of the Midwest Region; Max Shulman, president of the Chicago Zionist Organization; Mrs. S. H. Soboroff, chairman of the titho committee of Hadassah; and Pearl Franklin, chairman of the Rothschild-Hadassah-University Hospital Campaign, toward which the sum raised will be applied.
