A gift of $20,000 in cash to the Associated Jewish Charities of Chicago was refused by that organization, it was learned today. The directors stated they did not care to accept money from a Jew who admitted that he had made his fortune as a bootlegger. The donor asserted that he is no longer engaged in this illegal activity.
The Charities’ officials refused to take what one of them characterized as “tainted money.”
