A gift of 115½ acres of land adjoining the Winfield Tuberculosis Sanitarium at Winfield, Ill., by Mr. and Mrs. Charles Rubens, to the Jewish Charities of Chicago, was announced today. The gift was made in memory of their parents, Louis and Caroline Rubens and Isaac and Kate Meyer. It is planned to erect in the near future the first unit of a convalescent home and eventually to develop the entire tract for this and other Jewish community needs. Both Mr. and Mrs. Rubens have been active in affairs of the Chicago Jewish community for many years.
Officials of the Jewish Charities also announced that a gift of $25,000 has just been received from Mrs. Ida S. Florsheim, widow of Norman S. Florsheim, to be designated as the Norman S. Florsheim Fund. This is announced as an unrestricted bequest left to the charities by the will of Mr. Florsheim.
Other bequests received by the charities and announced today are $6,000 from the estate of Laura Strauss, $5,000 from the estate of Joseph Byfield, $3,000 from the estate of Charles Haas, $2,000 from the estate of Pauline Hilb, $500 from the estate of Sigmund M. Eisendrath, $421.04 from the estate of Haiman Lowy and $250 from the estate of Barnett Pruzan, making a total of $16,171.04.
