The Michael Reese Hospital of Chicago and the Montgomery, Ala., unit of the National Council of Jewish Women have been named winners of the third annual William J. Shroder Memorial Award, it was announced today by William Rosenwald, chairman of the Awards Committee.
Both awards were made in recognition of outstanding achievements in mental health. The Michael Reese Hospital, an affiliate of the Jewish Federation of Chicago, will receive the large city award for its Psychosomatic and Psychiatric Institute for Research and Training. The Montgomery, Ala., Section of the National Council of Jewish Women will receive the small city award for its pioneer work in developing a comprehensive, community wide mental health program.
The awards were established in 1952 by the Council of Jewish Federations and Welfare Funds, as a continuing tribute to the memory of Mr. Shroder, one of the Council’s founders and its first president. Mr. Shroder died in 1952. The awards will be formally presented at the 24th General Assembly of the Council in Chicago, November 12. The CJFWF is the national association of 250 Jewish federations and welfare funds representing approximately 800 communities throughout the United States and Canada.
