Jewish teachers in the Chicago schools are negotiating with the school board to assure them their salaries during the coming High Holidays.
Until last year, they always received full pay and it was considered a tradition which the Board of Education had observed for years. Last year, however, an exception was made and more than 200 Jewish teachers on the city payroll found their salaries deducted when they absented themselves from school during the holidays. Morris Eller, City Collector, has announced that he will champion the teachers’ cause before Mayor William Hale Thompson.
