The doors of the Moses Montefiore-Rachel Leah Talmud Torah, located at 1536 South St. Louis Avenue, are closed as a result of a strike of the Hebrew teachers, who have not been paid for several months.

According to some of the teachers, conditions under which they have been laboring daily in the schools were unbearable and notwithstanding the fact that they have not been paid for months, officials of the Talmud Torah have attempted several times to cut salaries which have not been paid. A committee of the Kehillah is working to bring about an agreement and settlement of the strike.
