A committee of leading citizens including Illinois Governor William G. Stratton and Chicago Mayor Richard J. Daley, will serve as members of a committee to honor Samuel A. Goldsmith at a dinner November 30, marking the 25th anniversary of Mr. Goldsmith’s coming to Chicago as executive director of its Jewish Federation. Fifteen hundred people are expected to attend.
Mr. Goldsmith, who heads the second largest enterprise of its kind in America, currently operating on a $14.5 million budget, is also a member of the board of Welfare Council of Metropolitan Chicago and other organizations in the health and welfare fields. During World War II, Mr. Goldsmith served as a Lieutenant Colonel with the Allied Military Government, Allied Control Commission in Italy and later became Chief of the DP Branch of the General Staff of Allied Force Headquarters. He has made surveys in Europe and Israel as a member of various commissions after both World Wars.
