Alderman Edwin S. Meyer charged Mayor Kelly with ignoring the wishes of neighbors in authorizing the issuance of a license for a saloon at 3859 N. Ashland Ave., said to be head quarters for the Chicago Nazis, The Chicago Herald-Examiner reported.
The neighborhood, it is said, is up in arms over the situation, terming the saloon a nuisance. Meetings of Chicago Nazis are held at the place.
Alderman Meyer declared that 300 residents of the neighborhood had signed a petition asking that the place be closed and a license refused. With a letter from the Alderman urging that no license be issued, the petition was presented to Police Commissioner Allman. Despite this, and in the face of the mayor’s lip service to the principle of “home rule”, the license was issued.
