Chief of Staff Gen. Rafael Eitan has ordered court martials for a number of soldiers, including an officer with the rank of colonel, for alleged negligence in handling secret documents which were discovered by a Yediot Achronot reporter recently in a city dump. The Knesset’s Foreign Affairs and Security Committee will also discuss the case shortly, it was announced Tuesday.
Labor Alignment MK Moshe Amar presented an urgent motion to the Knesset agenda this week. He said the discovery was symptomatic of general laxity in the armed forces which could have severe repercussions on the state of preparedness. The army is reportedly taking preventive measures to protect classified material.
