Dr. Heinrich Brody Chief Rabbi of Prague, celebrated his sixtieth birthday today. He received many congratulations from rabbis in Czecho-Slovakia and abroad.
Dr. Brody who was born in Yuzhorod, is a descendant of Abraham Broda, the famous Talmudist and a former Chief Rabbi of Prague. He was educated at Yuzhorod, Pressburg and Berlin. He is a noted Hebrew philologist and an authority on Jewish medieval lyric writings. His principal works are a three volume edition of the “Divan” of Yehuda Halevi, and an edition of the secular poems of Ibn Gabirol.
Dr. Brody also edited the “Zeitschrift fuer Hebraeische Bibliographie.” which he founded in 1896. He has taken great interest in the Zionist movement. Among his writings is one entitled “Does Zionism contradict our Religion?”. He is a frequent contributor to many Jewish and Hebrew periodicals.
