Chief Rabbi Alexander L. Shafran of Rumania arrived here yesterday in response to an invitation from the United Jewish Appeal. He will make his first public address this Sunday at the Conference of the Council of Organizations of the U.J.A., which will take place in the New School of Social Research.
The Chief Rabbi is the first Jewish leader to reach this country from Rumania since the liberation of the country. He was active in the underground movement during the period that the Rumanian Government collaborated with the Nazis and helped to rescue many Rumanian Jews who were deported to Transnistria.
