Rabbi Alexander Shafran, chief rabbi of Rumania, sailed today from France for the United States. He will be the first Rumanian Jewish leader to visit America since the outbreak of the war.
One of the principal purposes of Rabbi Shafran’s trip to America is to report on conditions of Jewish life in Rumania since the liberation. He will deliver his report at a public session of the annual meeting of the Joint Distribution Committee which is to be held in New York next Sunday.
