Israel’s hope for a young generation of pioneers who will redeem the barren wastelands of the Negev and western Galilee are centered in the children brought to the Jewish state under the Youth Aliyah program, Moshe Kol, head of the Jewish Agency’s Youth Aliyah department who is now visiting the U.S. told a meeting of the national board of the Pioneer Women last night.
Mr. Kol reported that the “reservoir of immigrant youth in Europe would soon be exhausted, and in the coming year the vast majority of newcomers are to be drawn from the North African countries.” During the past year, Mr. Kol disclosed, 12,000 children from 52 countries were brought to Israel under the Youth Aliyah program.
