Tel Aviv’s children began their week-long celebration of Chanukah last night with a mile-long parade through the city’s streets, singing and chanting as they waved their festival torches in celebration of the 2,100-year-old victory of the Jews over the Graeco-Syrian forces. The torches were lighted from a torch carried from Modin, home of the ancient revolt, to Jerusalem and later Tel Aviv by a chain of runners.

At ZOA House here, a special celebration was held for some 150 American tourists. About 100 children representing the various communities who returned to Israel from exile in the last few years, also participated, as did Tel Aviv’s Mayor A. Levanon and Chief Rabbi I.J. Unterman. The entire ceremony, including the lighting of the candles on a huge Menorah by Rabbi Unterman, was televised for showing in the United States.
