Chile and Israel have agreed to cooperate in a comprehensive regional development planning project, it was announced today by Gonzalo Martner Garcia, the Chilean Minister for National Planning following discussions with Israeli officials. Garcia, who is the first minister of the Marxist government of Chilean President Salvador Allende to visit Israel, said the United Nations Institute for Economic and Social Planning for Latin America is sponsoring an agreement with the Settlement Study Center at Rehovoth.
The Center will conduct a course geared to Chilean development needs. The participants will spend five months in Israel and five months in Chile. Garcia told newsmen today that the Allende government was now forging “A Chilean way to Socialism.” He said his country was interested in good political and commercial relations with all countries irrespective of their social or political systems. Allende reportedly accepted an invitation to visit Israel which was extended to him last year.
