A request of a group of Zionists here to legalize the “Society for Jewish Settlement in Palestine” was refused by the Chinese authorities. The authorities stated that a Zionist Organization is a political and not a philanthropic body. The Harbin Zionists have decided to obtain legalization of the society through the English Consul.

A Jewish club and library was opened in Tientsin. A survey of the Jewish population in the Tientsin district will be made soon.

Much comment was caused by the will of Leontoy Sokol, general manager of the Far Eastern Soviet Trade Mission, who committed suicide in Shanghai. Sokol requested in his will that he be buried in a Jewish cemetery, according to Jewish rites. The Shanghai Jewish community complied with his request.
