Four hundred leaders from Jewish communities in Chio and western Pennsylvania met yesterday at the Allerton Hotel here to discuss the proposal to convert the American Jewish Conference into a permanent organization. The principal speakers were Louis Lipsky, chairman of the executive committee of the Conference, and Rabbi Maurice Eisendrath, the head of the committee which drafted the new plan.
Although the meeting decided not to adopt any resolutions, the consensus of opinion appeared to favor the project. In reply to questions, the Conference spokesmen explained that the final form of the constitution of the new body would have to be ratified by the delegates attending the initial session, and that it could be ##amended at that time by a two-thirds vote. Any group willing to participate in the formation of the new organization would be welcomed, they said. The meeting was called under the auspices of the Cleveland Jewish Community Council.
