Christian and Jewish clergymen from throughout New England are continuing to circulate petitions on behalf of Israeli POWs in Syria. According to Rabbi Murray I. Rothman, spiritual leader of Temple Shalom of Newton and chairman of the Interfaith Committee of the Jewish Community Council of Metropolitan Boston, which initiated are petition drive, over 10,000 signatures have been obtained thus far. The petitions are being forwarded to the International Red Cross in Geneva and United Nations Secretary General Kurt Waldheim. Serving as consultant to the drive is Philip Perlmutter, New England Regional Director of the American Jewish Committee. Assisting the effort is Dan Mariaschin of the Jewish Community Council staff.
