Although the anti-Semitic unrest at the Franz Joseph Royal Hungarian University at Szeged has partly quieted down, Jewish students who were attacked there last week by their Christian colleagues still abstain from attending classes until their safety is guaranteed, because they fear new attacks.
New disturbances are anticipated in view of a decision of the Christian students not to permit the Jewish students to practice on Christian corpses at the anatomical institute, but to insist that they furnish Jewish corpses for that purpose.
According to a statement made by Dr. Kovacs, the chancellor of the university, last week’s outbreaks were the result of Prof. Albert Szentgyoergy’s praise of Jewish students in his chemistry class as the best in the university.
