The anti-Semitic remarks made recently in the Provincial Assembly by Agriculture Minister Laurent Barre have evoked strong protests by various local organizations, including the Montreal Council on Christian Social Order, which represents seven religious denominations.
The Council, following a special executive meeting, today urged upon Premier Maurice Duplessis “the great desirability of a public repudiation of the anti##-Semitic sentiments expressed In the Assembly by a government minister,” who acted “utterly unworthily” of his office by his “un-Christian slur upon that race from which Christ cams.” Barre’s remarks were also condemned as anti-Christian” by the Montreal Anglican Fellowship for Social Action
