A pledge to help the Soviet Jews was made here last night by two leading Belgian churchmen at a moving meeting of Jews and non-Jews held in solidarity with the Jewish community in the USSR. Father Georges Passelecq, Secretary-General of the Catholic Committee for Jewish-Christian Relations, and Dr. Willem Zuidema, of the Protestant Council for Relations with Jews, both pledged “Christian solidarity with the Jews in Russia.”
The Belgian Christians would fight side by side with Belguim’s Jews for the rights of their Jewish-Russian brethren, they said, After the meeting, lists of the jailed Soviet Jews and their home addresses were distributed so as to allow the audience to write to the jailed men’s families and thus express their sympathy personally.
