The Shearith Israel Synagogue of New York City, the nation’s oldest Jewish congregation which next year observes its 300th anniversary, received a hand-wrought Kiddush Cup as a part of the Aaronsburg Assembly ceremonies here yesterday.
The cup, which is traditionally used by the Jewish faith to welcome the Sabbath, was presented by members of the Salem Lutheran Church of this community of 321 people as a symbol of the spirit of brotherhood and friendliness of Aaron Levy, a Jew who donated a pewter communion service to the Salem Lutheran Church 154 years ago. Levy also gave the land for the church and its burying grounds.
