A commission to study the possibility of banning cigarette and tobacco advertising in Israel has been instituted by Attorney General Meir Shamgar it was reported today. The bill drawn up by the Health Ministry would have more extensive stipulations than those of most countries. In addition to the warning on tobacco packs and boxes stating the danger to one’s health, each product would be obliged to list in large letters the amounts of tar and nicotine contained in it. Advertising of tobacco or its products would be prohibited from newspapers, television and radio. The committee appointed by the Attorney General will study the practical implications of such a bill. A report will then be submitted to the Cabinet stating possible effects on the economy and methods of enforcement.
