A thousand Cincinnatians interested in Jewish welfare, education and the Community Chest will attend a testimonal dinner Thursday at the Sintion St. Nicholas in honor of William J. Shroder, president of the Jewish Welfare Council, who retired the first of the year are president of the Board of Education.
Mayor Russell Wilson will be toastmaster. Dr. W. J. Hutchins of Berea College, will be principal speaker. Dr. Raymond Walters, Rabbi James G. Heller of Wise Temple and Congressman John B. Hollister of the First Ohio District will make short talks. Mr. Shroder will respond.
Thirteen years ago Mr. Shroder. the only 45, retired from his activities as an executive of the David Joseph Co. and gave up his law practice to devote the remainder of his life to social service and civie work.
Ten years ago the Community Chest chose him an honorary member for his work as its budget director. Unlike many Jewish publie men he has not neglected charities of his own faith but has worked with great energy to bring those possible into the Council of Social Agencies and to coordinate the remainder so as to avold dupacation of drives.
