The CIO national convention last night adopted a resolution calling for full recognition of Israel by the United States and assistance from this government to the Jewish state. The six-point resolution urged:
1. The U.S. Government accord full de jure recognition to Israel; 2. Lift the embargo on arms shipments; 3. Oppose all attempts in the U.N. to deprive Israel of the Negev; 4. Provide a loan to Israel; 5. Support the Jewish state’s application for U.N. membership when it is submitted; and, 6. The convention reaffirmed its solidarity with the Histadruth.
Isaac Ben Zvi, president of the Jewish National Council of Israel, who is now in this country to assist a drive for $10,000,000 for the Histadruth, received an ovation from the convention delegates after he described conditions in Israel and thanked the American labor movement for its aid to the Jewish state and the Histadruth. He appealed for further help to the Jewish people in their struggle for justice, peace and equality.
