Further steps with a view to bringing about a reconciliation between the administration and the present opposition are being taken by the Citizens Committee working under the slogan, “Peace and Reconstruction.”
The Jewish Daily Bulletin learns that the membership of the committee, which includes New York Health Commissioner Louis I. Harris, Dr. Mordecai M. Kaplan, Emanuel Neumann and Israel Matz, has been increased to fifty. The committee has held a number of meetings during the past ten days and various plans and suggestions for solving the crisis are under consideration.
Both parties in the controversy have been approached by representatives of the Citizens’ Committee and a conference between the two opposing factions will take place within a few days, after which it is expected a detailed statement is to be issued.
None of the members of the committee was willing to discuss the suggestions now under consideration and to state whether its effort has any chance of success.
