The City Council of Montreal has passed a resolution of congratulations on the occasion of Israel’s tenth anniversary. At a meeting attended by 15, 000 people here marking the Israeli birthday, a resolution was passed hailing Israel’s decade of achievement.
In Toronto, close to 2, 000 persons were unable to enter Massey Hall for the Israel celebration. Extra police had to be called in to handle the overflow as people even with reserved seats were unable to be accommodated in the auditorium 20 minutes after the doors were opened. Speakers included; Haim H. Cohn, Attorney General of Israel; Arthur Lourie, Israel Ambassador to Canada; the Jewish Mayor of Toronto, Nathan Philips, Q. C., and Allan Bronfman, chairman of the Canadian Anniversary Committee George Hees, Minister of Transport, brought greetings on behalf of the Canadian Government.
