A ceremony marking the first sale of Israel citrus fruit in Canada since the establishment of the State of Israel was held at Montreal’s City Hall today. Israel Consul General Yehuda Gaulan presented Montreal Mayor Jean Drapeau with a box of oranges, in the course of the ceremony.
The fruit arrived aboard the Israel freighter “Dagan,” which docked at Halifax, At that city, the ship and crew were given an official welcome by the Mayor and leading citizens. The 350 Jewish families of Halifax all visited the vessel during its stay in port.
