The assertion that certain Denver Jews are interested in having the Jewish people re-convene the Sanhedrin at Jerusalem for the purpose of re-trying Jesus, was made by Dr. L. Cooper, of Los Angeles, at the Central Baptist Church here. Dr. Cooper stated that this startling movement was initiated by certain orthodox Jewish laymen in Denver, Colorado, in 1929. He said that these men plan to hold a court at Jerusalem, composed of 71 persons, divided as follows: 23 of the world’s most influential Rabbis; 24 Jewish professional and business men, and the the balance the most famous scholars in Jewry. The witnesses would be Christian and Jewish savants.
Dr. Cooper is apparently convinced that such a trial will occur, and result not only in an acquittal, but also in the knowledgement of Jesus as the true Messiah.
With regard to the movement itself, Dr. Cooper said: “The history of the movement reads like a romance. Those Denver business men planned secretly for 12 years. The men are orthodox Jews who in no wise believe in the divinity of Christ as some have accused them of secretly believing. They are merely inviting Christians to present them with the proofs for which their children are continually asking”.
