Clarifying the U.S. position on the Wye accord, the spokesman for the U.S. Embassy in Tel Aviv said Tuesday that Israeli officials “should focus on implementing their obligations” under the accord rather than argue that the Palestinian Authority should be the first to break the stalemate in peacemaking. Larry Schwartz made the comment one day after saying the Palestinian Authority should do more to combat terrorism before Israel is required to carry out any further West Bank redeployments under the terms of the Wye agreement.
