A goal of $6, 036, 000, highest in its history, has been set for this year’s Jewish Welfare Fund Appeal. The 1962 campaign realized the record total of $5, 828,487.
Stress in solicitation is being placed on the need of obtaining $706, 000 in plus money. This extra giving, according to the campaign leadership, is necessary to make up for the losses due to deaths, removals from the city, and other causes and to provide some additional support for certain essential local and national services. Official dates of the campaign have been set at April 25 to May 16.
Rabbi Arthur J. Lelyveld is general chairman of the campaign, with Arthur Dery, Edward Ginsberg, and Maurice Saltzman serving as general co-chairmen. Rabbi Lelyveld termed the record goal an achievable sum and reported that a very encouraging beginning had been made at several pace-setting Initial Gifts sessions.
