France’s new ambassador to Israel, Jean Adolphe Bourdeillette, today presented his letters of credence to President Ben-Zvi. In his statement to the President, Ambassador Bourdeillette stressed the close ties between the two countries. The envoy also noted the importance of the recently-signed Israel-French cultural agreement.
President Ben-Zvi, in his reply to Ambassador Bourdeillette, said that friendship between the two countries, which was expanding and deepening, now penetrated all fields of culture, science, economics and politics. “In a recent hour of danger, we learned by experience how valuable this friendship is and how close the cooperation was.” France, which traditionally has been the defender of the freedom and rights of small countries, is now, under President de Gaulle, even more ready to fulfill this traditional task, President Ben-Zvi said.
