Clothiers Give $97,762 for Federation Aid

The sum of $97,762 was turned over to the Federation for the Support of Jewish Philanthropic Societies last night by the clothing and allied divisions of the 1934 emergency campaign during a testimonial dinner at the Hotel Commodore to William Goldman, Herman Lissner and William P. Gold-man, leading figures in the clothing trade. More than 1,000 persons attended.

The presentation was made by William P. Goldman to Lawrence Marx, one of the four co-chairmen of the 1934 Federation campaign for $2,071,000 to wipe out a deficit in its budget for support of ninety-one charitable agencies.

PROMINENT SPEAKERS

Principal speakers scheduled were Max D. Steuer, attorney, and Charles D. Jaffee, member of the Clothing Trade Authority. Jerome I. Udell, chairman of the clothing division, presided.

Also scheduled to speak were former Justice Joseph M. Proskauer, president of the Federation, Solomon Lowenstein, executive director, Mr. Marx, Paul Felix Warburg, vice-president, Waldemar Kops, chairman of the executive committee of the Business Men’s Council, Samuel D. Leidesdorf, Council chairman, Julius Levy, I. M. Cohen and Louis Surut.

PLAQUES AWARDED

Silver plaques, suitably inscribed were presented to Goldman and Lissner in appreciation of their services.

Figures illustrating the success of the Federation drive in the clothing and woolen industries were furnished by Udell, who revealed that last year there were 782 individual contributions, as compared with a total of 2,518 this year. The clothing and allied divisions quota in the drive was $90,000.
