John Adams, second President of the United States, wrote in 1809: “The Hebrews have done more to civilize men than any other nation.”

Notice that the large clothing firm of Hamburg Bros., Ltd., of Stettin, has been confiscated by the government has just been announced by the Law Administration of that city. At the same time it was disclosed that warrants have been issued for the arrest of the firm’s principal stockholders, Karl and Jacob Hamburg, and Dr. Martin Suesskind, executive secretary of the company.

According to a press release from the Stettin Law Administration, the trio “fled abroad on July 25, 1934. They took with them foreign securities, mostly iron and oil shares, to a value of 1,300,000 marks, and about 100,000 marks in cash.”

The confiscation, the announcement states, made “on the basis of the Currency Laws of June 30, 1934. The firm employed 140 persons. Its product was sold in various German cities through subsidiary retail companies.

“The state attorney,” the press release states,” has taken over the entire concern for the state. A new board was appointed. The German Labor Bank in Berlin has granted a large sum as credit for the enterprise. . . and there is no ground for any anxiety on the part of the creditors or the employees.”

Secrecy until the present time was maintained, it is explained, “in the interests of the unhindered continuance of the firm.”
