The death of the former Minister of Justice, M. Hamangiu, has created a vacancy in his constituency at Tutova, and Zelea Codreanu, the father of Corneliu Zelea Codreanu, the leader of the Iron Guard, who was returned as a Deputy in a recent by-election, is standing as the candidate of his son’s antisemitic party. There is no possibility of his being elected, unless, as is thought likely, he receives support from other quarters. The “Curierul Israelit”, the organ of the Union of Roumaian Jews, hints at this possibility, writing that if the father gets the same support as his son, that is, from the Government, it will not surprise anyone to find the Iron Guard securing a second seat in Parliament.
