Col. Fred Levy was elected chairman of the Kentucky drive in the United Jewish Campaign at a conference held here. Over one hundred representatives of the Jewish communities of Louisville, Lexington, Red House, Ownesboro, Lexington and Frankfort were present, including Rabbis A. L. Zarchy, J. J. Gittelman and J. Rosen of Louisville, and T. Lifset of Lexington.
A quota of $200,000 was accepted for the state.
This will be the third time Col. Fred Levy has assumed the Kentucky chairmanship in Jewish Overseas relief campaigns. In the last War Relief Campaign, Kentucky was among the first states to raise it quota and pass it.
Associated with Mr. Levy, as officers of the campaign, the conference chose the following. Vice Chairmen, Charles W. Morris, Louisville; Jonas Weil, Lexington; Silas Rosenfeld, Owensboro; Treasurer, Alfred Brandeis, Louisville.
Emil S. Tachan of Louisville volunteered to organize Eastern Kentucky for the campaign. A state wide drive is scheduled for the week of April 11 to 17th.
NEW YORK DRIVE IN UNITED JEWISH CAMPAIGN WILL BE LAUNCHED APRIL 11
The official launching of the New York City drive to raise its quota of $6,000,000 for the United Jewish Campaign will take place on Sunday evening, April 11th, according to an announcement made by William Fox, chairman of the New York drive. The drive will continue to the end of the month.
Mr. Fox also announced that organizations of groups are being formed in 145 leading industries in Greater New York.
In addition to the trade organizations Jewish women of Greater New York will be organized, and formed into groups for solicitation purposes.
