Col. Herbert H. Lehman, was among the State officers installed at the ceremonies held here yesterday, when Franklin D. Roosevelt was inaugurated New York Governor, succeeding Alfred E. Smith.
The installation of Col. Lehman is an important event in American Jewish history, being the first time that an American Jew was elected to so high a post in the Empire State.
Secretary of State Robert Moses administered the oath of office to Governor Roosevelt. Justice Irving Lehman of the New York Supreme Court, a brother of the incoming Lieutenant-Governor, was among the guests who attended the ceremonies at the capital.
Col. Lehman has taken up quarters in Albany, where he will remain for the two years of his term, as it is expected he will take an active part in the administration of the state government.
